Fake Quotation Request Email Scam Alert

MailGuard has identified and successfully blocked a new phishing campaign designed to harvest Microsoft 365 login credentials. The attack is deceptively simple: an email that appears to request a quote response, paired with a fake DocuSign-branded login page.

How It Works

The email arrives with the subject line 'QUOTATION' and includes links supposedly leading to PDF documents. The message is brief and requests confirmation of a quote submission, creating a sense of urgency and pressure to act.

Here's an example of what the emails look like 👇

Quotation - email - 0725-xOnce clicked, the link redirects the recipient to a phishing page mimicking a DocuSign login screen, hosted on a Microsoft Azure blob storage domain. Users are asked to select their email provider, whether Outlook, Office 365, or another provider.

Quotation - select email client - 0725-x

And then prompted to log in using their email credentials, granting the scammers access to their account.

Quotation - signin - 0725-x

After credentials are entered, they are immediately exfiltrated via a Telegram bot along with the victim’s IP address, city, country, and browser details. The user is then prompted to retry, giving attackers multiple chances to capture the information. See insert below demonstrating the details which are transferred to the scammers database.

What to Watch Out For

Examples of the scam include:

  • A generic message asking for a quotation, from what appears to be a real sender
  • A fake DocuSign login screen hosted on Azure storage
  • Requests for email login via Outlook or Office 365, or
  • Plaintext credential harvesting via a Telegram bot

Stay Safe - Know the Signs

MailGuard advises all recipients of these emails to delete them immediately without clicking on any links. Responding or providing personal details can lead to identity theft, data breaches, and financial losses.

Avoid emails that:

  • Aren’t addressed to you personally.
  • Are unexpected and urge immediate action.
  • Contain poor grammar or miss crucial identifying details.
  • Direct you to a suspicious URL that isn’t associated with the genuine company.
