Fake SEEK Job Ad Suspension Email Targets Employers

MailGuard has intercepted a new, highly targeted phishing campaign impersonating SEEK, one of Australia’s most trusted job platforms. This sophisticated scam is designed to steal employer login credentials under the guise of a policy violation warning.

What the Email Looks Like

The fraudulent message claims that a job advertisement has been suspended due to a potential violation of non-discrimination policies. It urges the recipient to "Fix my Job Ad now", linking to a counterfeit SEEK login page.

Here's an example of what the email looks like 👇

SEEK - 0625 - email

How the Scam Works

Once the link is clicked, victims are directed to a convincing fake login screen that closely mimics SEEK’s legitimate employer portal:

Login Prompt

The user is asked to enter their SEEK credentials.

SEEK - 0625 - login

Two-Factor Verification Trap

A second page then asks for a one-time SMS verification code, mimicking SEEK’s two-factor authentication step.

SEEK - 0625 - verify

Redirection to the Real Website

Finally, users are redirected to the legitimate SEEK login page, making it appear as though the process was genuine.

SEEK - 0625 - login-fail

By this stage, the scammers have already harvested the victim’s username, password, and SMS authentication code — giving them full access to the SEEK employer account.

Key Indicators of the Scam

Display Name: SEEK

Sending Address: noreply(at)seekmailings(dot)live

Linked Domains (all fake):

  • seekmls(dot)icu
  • seekapi(dot)tech
  • seekapi2(dot)tech

This phishing attack is particularly dangerous because of its low volume and surgical targeting. It was only distributed via two message sends, each using a different, freshly registered domain — a tactic designed to evade traditional spam filters.

Why This Attack Matters

For businesses using SEEK to manage recruitment, unauthorised access to an employer account could lead to:

  • Posting of fraudulent job ads
  • Theft of applicant data
  • Reputational damage, and/or
  • Potential compliance breaches
This is a timely reminder that even legitimate-looking emails from trusted brands can be used as bait in increasingly deceptive phishing campaigns.
