Email Threat: Fake MYOB Invoice Scam

Late this morning MailGuard detected a 'fake invoice' email scam using MYOB branding.

The messages used in this cybercrime attack are well formatted with authentic looking MYOB branding in the footer.

The subject line of this email shows: 'Invoice TX107350 from Tax Store Australia.'

The message urges the recipient to click on a ‘view invoice’ link, which points to a file archive on a compromised SharePoint account. The archive file contains malicious javascript malware.

You can see in the screenshot above that this message looks quite convincing. But the sender address URL is myobcenter[dot]com, which is a new URL recently registered in China for the purpose of this scam.

This message was successfully intercepted by MailGuard and prevented from reaching our customers, but unprotected inboxes will still be affected, so if you’re not a MailGuard customer please keep an eye out for it.
