In a recent survey of 157 enterprise security experts, Osterman Research found that three-quarters of these professionals agreed that malware was introduced to corporate networks through staff web browsing.

Of these, 78% are reviewing cloud-based managed service providers to assist them in reducing the risk of infections through malware.

CRN reported on the study which found that companies are doing their part by blocking websites, file sharing and other services that are known to be malicious. The problem however, is that over half still let employees visit popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

So how then does a managed service provider offer superior protection as opposed to internal security management? Cloud security providers of managed services protect the entire network and block malware and sites which are known to them to be risky. This in turn reduces bandwidth pressures which costs your business financially.

Cloud managed service providers can also allow you to control which websites your staff have access to, by preventing access to social media or other non work essential websites. Again, this reduces bandwidth pressures and associated costs, the cost of lost productivity as well as protecting your brand and network from – potentially the biggest cost of all.

Web filtering services such as WebGuard have helped thousands of businesses filter and monitor website browsing to protect their entire business network. Policies can be set at an organisational, group or individual level to manage staff browsing in real-time. To find out more contact MailGuard or sign up for a risk free 14 day trial.
