E-Toll fake receipt notification contains malware file

Written by Emmanuel Marshall | 23 May 2018 05:13:25 Z

MailGuard has detected a new scam based on a fake
E-Toll receipt email.

This scam uses a simple email message that tells the recipient “your payment made to E-Toll… has been successful. Please find attached receipt by this link.”

Victims who download the linked Google Doc file are unwittingly introducing malware onto their computers which is embedded in the file download.

This message originates from a variety of senders, including:

  •    "E-Toll \(6050834\)" Bill@jotbill.com
  •    "Motorway Team \(4828291\)" steadfast@firstbaptistmaysville.com

Don't get scammed

If your company’s email accounts aren’t protected, scam emails like the one above are almost certainly being received by your staff.  Cybercriminals know people can be tricked; that’s why they send out millions of scam messages and put so much effort into making them look convincing.

People are not machines; we're all capable of making bad judgement calls. Without email filtering protecting your business, it’s just a matter of time before someone in your organisation has a momentary lapse of judgement and clicks on the wrong thing.

For a few dollars per staff member per month, you can protect your business with MailGuard's predictive email security.
