Pacific Internet shows commitment to security by partnering with MailGuard

MailGuard's leading email anti-virus and anti-spam filtering technology underpins Pacific Internet's new managed service

Pacific Internet (Australia) Pty Ltd has chosen MailGuard to be its partner in delivering business grade managed email, anti-virus, anti-spam and content filtering for the business market. Pacific Internet is branding MailGuard's service as PacNet CleanMail.

"We chose MailGuard because of its comprehensive ability to address anti-virus, anti-spam, content filtering and regulatory compliance requirements. It also proved to be the most flexible and customisable with regard to rebranding the service. We also liked its very solid subscriber and service provider reporting abilities," said Dennis Muscat, Pacific Internet's Managing Director.

At the technical level, what stood MailGuard apart was its ability to handle day-zero attacks as well as its reporting capabilities so the customer is presented with automated easy to understand reports that detail email usage, and the type of attacks from which the business is being protected.

"Importantly, we are proud to have selected an Australian company who really does know the Australian SMB market. We were impressed with the thoroughness of the local development team with whom we have been working closely. It also helped that a number of our existing business customers were using the solution independent of us and recommended it to us," said Muscat.

"Pacific Internet is offering the MailGuard solution to customers who have their own mail server, whether it's Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, Groupwise or any other, and are having problems with spam, viruses, filtering content or just wishing to know if their email resource is being misused. MailGuard also delivers the benefit of blocking spam and virus attacks at the Internet. This protects both the clients' mailserver from load and compromise, as well as the link to the Internet from congestion and excessive download fees" said Andrew Johnson, MailGuard's Marketing Director.

Pacific Internet is offering the new CleanMail service through its own channel supported by new dedicated account managers and a series of training and promotional events.

"The MailGuard service offers a strong OEM solution that can be fully managed and rebranded by the partner. It is designed from the ground up as a multi-tenanted solution. Working with IT Managers and business owners, we are very aware that as important as it is resolve their problems effectively, it is also critical to provide our clients with the tools so that they retain control of their infrastructure. MailGuard is designed to allow our clients to have full control over their email, but to also resolve their spam and virus problems without them having to do anything," said Johnson.

"After a 12 month period of evaluating a number of potential providers, Pacific Internet identified the value add it can provide to its business customers and partners by offering the MailGuard service. Spam and viruses targeting mail servers in Australia each day continues to grow exponentially. There is no doubt that the small to medium business market is today aware of the criticality of email as the communication tool of choice and its impact on business performance. If spam and virus attacks cause delays, frustrations, conflict or outages in the timely and reliable delivery of email, then the business will suffer. It's our job to protect our clients' businesses from these threats" concluded Johnson.

Last quarter's Broadband Barometer survey undertaken by Pacific Internet reflected the top of mind issues for small to medium businesses was spam and virus attacks as well as the management of access to the Internet. A growing number are expressing concern with regard to archiving emails to meet increased compliance regulations.

MailGuard recently celebrated five years of successfully servicing the Australian SME sector. The company filtered more than 700 million email messages in 2005. Today, MailGuard filters over 2,500,000 emails daily and protects over 45,000 people against viruses, spam, mail bomb/email denial of service attacks and hackers as well as providing email filtering/management and usage statistics.
